Jonkman Coating paints parts for Thales Nederland, in particular for radar systems for the Royal Netherlands Navy and Army, both nationally and internationally. Both on site and in the newly built paint shop at the High Tech Systems Park. The innovation campus where, among others, Thales is located.
The newly built hall serves for overhaul work, which is work that is carried out on, for example, large radar installations. These products are stripped by Thales, provided with new electronics and software updates, for example, connections are renewed, the die-cast aluminum base is repaired and everything must be provided with a new coat of paint. In those cases, because some of these parts are too large to transport by road, they arrive by ship at the Thales site and then go directly to the new hall built right on the canal.
During the development of this new building, called ST&OF (Surface Treatment and Overhaul Facility), we were closely involved in the design of the spraying hall, which had to be located in this building. An important aspect of removing any old paint layers is the fact that many old paint layers (especially the primers) contain chromium VI. By a special blasting process (sponge blasting) that releases almost no dust, in combination with the heaviest category of protective clothing and the best air exchange and filter installation, the possibilities of this building are unique in the Netherlands and perhaps even in Europe. There is already a lot of interest from worldwide customers in this new facility.
Jonkman Coating manages this spraying facility and performs all surface treatments.
